The origin of Quality Assurance Establishment (Naval), Chennai can be traced back to 11 Jul 1969, when Production and Inspection Establishment (Naval), PIE(N) was raised under the Directorate of Production & Inspection (Naval). The main charter of duties of the establishment then was to carry out industrial survey to identify potential manufacturers capable of supplying equipment and stores to the Indian Navy. PIE(N) Chennai was rechristened as Quality Assurance Establishment (Naval), Chennai on 11 Nov 1987.
CHARTER OF DUTIES
The establishment is responsible for Quality Assurance of electrical, electronic equipment/items, weapon/sensors and patterned Naval Stores supplied to IN or to shipyard for use/fitment onboard ships of IN and ICG. This establishment also takes up inspection of equipment developed by Naval Research organizations such as NPOL, NSTL etc., as instructed by the DQA(N), New Delhi
