HISTORY

The establishment was set up on 28 Mar 1974 as Inspectorate of Underwater Batteries (IOUB) under Directorate of Production and Inspection (Naval), New Delhi with the primary task of Indigenization and Quality Assurance of High Energy Submarine Battery UPG-125 for Kursura Class of Submarines. With the re-structuring of DGI / DPIN in the year 1987, the office was renamed as Quality Assurance Establishment (Underwater Batteries). The establishment was successfully involved in indigenisation of four different types of Submarine Batteries namely Type-I (EKMs), Type-II (SSKs), Type-III (modified UPG-125, now obsolete) and Type-IV (Scorpene) Batteries

 

CHARTER OF DUTIES

The establishment is presently located at DGQA Complex, Vikhroli (West), Mumbai with primary task of Quality Assurance of indigenous Type-I, Type-II and Type-IV main Submarine Batteries and its associated spares and accessories. The establishment also undertakes inspection of stores ordered by the Navy / Shipyards which includes all other Primary & Secondary Batteries, UPS & its Batteries, Seawater Activated Cells and Battery related Systems manufactured

 
AREA OF JURISDICTION

The establishment undertakes inspection of stores ordered by the Navy / Shipyards in geographical area in the State of Goa, Union Territories of Daman, Diu, Southern parts of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat State.
