The ‘Steel Milan’ is an important forum for interaction between Indian Navy, Naval QA units and Steel Plants for monitoring of steel production for Navy’s indigenous shipbuilding projects. In view of the ongoing pandemic situation posed challenges in conduct of the event in conventional format. However, the DQA(N) team rose to the challenge and organized the event on due date in the E-Conclave format with participation of around 40 stakeholders from Navy, DGQA, SAIL Corporate HQ and Steel Plants at Bhilai, Rourkela and Bokaro.
The DGQA team led by Lt Gen Sanjay Chauhan, DGQA and SAIL team was led by Ms Soma Paul, Member of SAIL Board of Directors. Salient decisions taken during the Steel Milan 2020 included certification of Thin Plates ( <10 mm) for Special Applications, Creation of a Central Database of Inspected Plates and Introduction RFID tags for tracking movement of Inspected Plates.
